Education Opportunities in Marlborough
SECONDARY Marlborough has four secondary schools. Marlborough Boys’ and Marlborough Girls’ Colleges are located in Blenheim. Rai Valley Area School serves the rural community around Rai Valley and the adjacent Sounds area. Queen Charlotte College in Picton features the Queen Charlotte Aquaculture Academy, a model learning venture between the school and the local aquaculture industry that provides substantial in-kind and funding support for the venture.
Innes House provides boarding facilities for the Blenheim colleges.
TERTIARY The Marlborough Campus of the Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology provides education covering areas as diverse as cooking, carpentry and adult learning, as well as specialising in viticulture and aviation. The campus is also destined to become the focus of the Institute’s aquaculture training.
The Marlborough Campus is located in Blenheim, a short walk from the town centre and close to the plentiful vineyards and Marlborough’s fabulous outdoors including the acclaimed Marlborough Sounds. A full suite of programmes are offered covering aircraft maintenance engineering, viticulture, art, outdoor recreation, business, computing, carpentry, counselling, nannying, Te Reo Maori, aquaculture, hospitality and cookery. The Marlborough Wine Centre of Excellence is located on campus, providing students with unrivalled facilities for wine studies. The aviation courses take place at the nearby Woodbourne Airforce base providing a unique learning environment. Students work on real aircraft including the resident Boeing 727.
The Marlborough Campus is small yet manages to offer the same facilities expected at a bigger campus while students are known by name. There is a great café, comprehensive library, modern computer suite, student lounge and games area and excellent student support available.
